The Journey Forward: SIMPLIFY

read on MICHAELWGUSKY.COM | October 25, 2022

Greetings Joysetters,

I am drafting this edition of The Journey Forward four days after publishing the last in hopes of meeting my goal of every other week. I feel that I should simplify the layout a bit for a few reasons. First, So that I can meet that goal, and second because we all have very short attention spans. I believe that if I make this much simpler it may actually bring you more value. So here we go. The Journey Forward is now “occasional” and “simpler.”

Leave who you were. Love who your are. Look Forward to who you will become.

The past no longer exists. It is over. Enjoy the successes. Learn from the mistakes. Plan the next steps of your journey. Here is mine. What is yours?

I am LEAVING my continued failure to quit vaping nicotine for the moment. I know I need to do it. It is in my sights, but there are a few other dominos I need to knock down first.

I LOVE the cadence of my writing right now. I am still looking for opportunities to increase the frequency, but the first domino is being knocked down with the current cadence.

I LOOK FORWARD to deeper connections with friends, family, colleagues, new acquaintances, and YOU. My nature is very introverted. Add to that a bit of workaholicism and the result becomes a bit of a recluse outside of work. Connections bring about inspiration, motivation, and great energy. I will swing the “Family & Social” pendulum to that optimal (but not perfect, there is no such thing) middle.

What's your Leave, Love, Look Forward for the week?

Read, Reading, Up Next

One of my greatest joys is reading and sharing great books. As a subscriber to this newsletter, you will always be entered in my drawings to win a copy of whatever I am currently reading, sometimes signed by the author when I can make that happen. A quick update on what I am currently reading can be found below. Click here to see the full list of Read, Reading, and Up Next.

Discipline Is Destiny: The Power of Self-Control by Ryan Holiday

I am loving this latest book from Ryan Holiday. If you are looking for inspiration to up your game and implement the Stoic virtues of courage, temperance, justice, and wisdom – I highly recommend grabbing a copy. I will be giving away 4 copies signed by Ryan in random drawings of subscribers to The Journey Forward Newsletter. One a week for four weeks starting once I finish reading the book which I can guarantee will be this week.

As a subscriber to this newsletter, you are already entered in the drawings for a signed copy of this book. If you know of anyone that would be a good addition to our connection or would like a chance at winning a copy share THIS LINK or use the “share this on Twitter” link below to, well, share this on Twitter. :)

Bad Poems and Bad Calligraphy Series Among the many things I wish I would have learned or had the talent to do – poetry and calligraphy are near the top. I am horrible at both, but you can’t get better without trying and frankly putting it out there. I find myself fiddling with both on … Read More >

The "day job" has kept me pretty busy and I have kept my focus on writing the posts for the "Habits for Well-Being" series. Five done, four more to go. I am proud to say I have built a habit of creating on new post each week for the last 6 weeks with momentum to complete the series in a nine week streak if not sooner. The Journey Forward: The Promise of Spring read on MICHAELWGUSKY.COM | February 3, 2023 February Self-Care: Taking Advantage of the Return of Daylight This week marked a few annual milestones / holidays. The pagan celebration of Imbolc. The Catholic holiday of St. Brigid's day or Candlemas. And the U.S. version of all of this as Groundhog Day. In the end, they are all about the returning of daylight and the promise of Spring. February can be a trying month for those in the Northern...

The Journey Forward: Happy New You! read on MICHAELWGUSKY.COM | January 14, 2023 Wow, it's 2023! Aren't we supposed to have flying cars and floating cities by now? :) I hope you had a wonderful Holiday season. I disconnected in a major way and chased the sunshine which was a pretty big challenge this past month. No matter how far south I went it seemed that the cold weather was following me. I managed to find that big yellow ball in the sky for a few days along with a couple days of...
